Last night was an interesting evening for us…at about 4:40 in the afternoon, the power went out. We went outside to wait for daddy to get home, but he ended up being late due to the traffic — all of the stop lights were out as well! Our favorite neighborhood restaurant had no power, so we drove until we could see the light! After dinner, we walked over to a nearby pet shop where the kids were in heaven admiring all of the fish — and even a few nurse sharks! Oh how I wish I’d brought my camera!!!
We were content to hang in the pet shop for awhile and then headed home…Emma was a bit distraught — “What are we going to do, Mom? Everything we play is electric!” Hmmm…maybe this was a blessing in disguise! We pulled up to the house with promises of a family soccer match and a dessert of all of our soon-to-be-melting ice cream! But as we pulled up, some of our neighbors had gathered in the yard next door. The kids hopped out to say hello, and soon we had a whole group of adults and kids — standing around and chatting as the sun went down.
Right as darkness descended upon us, one of our neighbors appeared, generously offering battery-powered lanterns to anyone who needed one. Several of us followed him back to his house to take him up on his kind offer! As we all stood around his kitchen, finally stocked up on gear, the lights came back on! Everyone cheered…and I felt relieved, and a little sad. It wasn’t the most exciting night, but it was something a little different — for us, an adventure
Oh — I have to give a big shout out to my nephew, Oliver, who turns one today! Alisha has promised to send pictures from their day o’ fun, so until I get those, this will have to do…
Happy Birthday, Oli!!!
